Description
To provide overall direction for CANDO’s
Business Finance initiatives and to expand CANDO’s Self Employment Loan Fund
[SELF], while maintaining the quality of its portfolio. The Director of
Business Finance will work at all times in close partnership with the
President/CEO, Executive Vice President/COO, and members of the Board of
Directors. Areas of Responsibility
Manage CANDO’s
Self Employment Loan Fund
[SELF]
-
Market SELF to technical assistance
providers, banks, CANDO members and other networks.
-
Underwrite and structure
micro-loans.
-
Staff Loan
Committee.
-
Responsible for closing documentation
and disbursement of loan proceeds.
-
Manage loan portfolio and pursue
aggressive collection steps if necessary.
-
Prepare quarterly reports for capital
investors and CANDO board.
-
Provide advice and counsel for
individuals pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities.
-
Recruit and supervise interns and
assistants as funding allows.
Community Economic Development
Finance
-
Staff Community Economic
Development Finance Working Group of board directors and CANDO
members.
-
Lead in the effort to increase
members’ capacity to identify and access financing for economic development
opportunities.
-
Design and implement new private
sector resources and products for financing community economic
development.
-
Explore and pursue new governmental
programs for financing community economic development.
-
Participate as active member of the
Chicago CRA Coalition to improve access to capital for small
businesses.
Small Business Development &
Finance
-
Actively market and package
applications for SBA Community Express loans.
-
Provide post-loan technical assistance
to Community Express borrowers.
-
Conduct / co-sponsor training seminars
to address small business development issues
-
Serve as information clearing house
for small business loan products and services.
Requirements:
Must have at least 3 years of business
development and/or lending experience. Graduate
degree or equivalent training in business administration and
finance. Competitive salary with full benefit

Development
The Civic Committee
of the Commercial Club of Chicago is a private non-profit organization whose
members hold senior executive positions in leading Chicago area businesses,
professional service organizations and educational institutions. The
mission of the Civic Committee is to stimulate and encourage the growth of
the area?s economy and its ability to provide for its people.
The Committee works to protect and improve those parts of the regional
business environment on which employers depend: strong education and training
systems; sound and effective local government services; superior
transportation and communication networks; and
reasonable local tax and regulatory structures.
This Director reports to the President of
the Civic Committee. Working with the President and members, the Director is
responsible for shaping and implementing the economic development agenda and
developing collaborative relationships with appropriate government and
community organizations. The Director represents the Civic Committee
economic development agenda in dealing with other business and policy groups
and officials in state and local government. The activities include
project implementation and advocacy to improve governmental policies that
impact the region?s economic health. Currently, the Director manages
initiatives in a number of areas, including the following:
· Inner-City Business
Development, · Emerging Markets Retail
Study, · High Tech Marketing and Workforce
Development · North Branch of the Chicago River
Redevelopment Project
Qualifications: Minimum of 7 to
10 years experience in public policy, economic development or related
field. Strong conceptual thinking, analytical and communication skills
are essential. Ability to work collaboratively is critical.
Candidates with an advanced degree in a relevant field are
strongly preferred.

Description:
Assist in development,
promotion, and implementation of specific training programs for low to moderate
income individuals seeking to start or expand a business. Tasks include
community needs assessment, promotion, recruitment, enrollment, follow-up,
research, individual technical assistance, and database maintenance.
Qualifications:
Master s degree from an
accredited college or university in business development or BA with equivalent
combination of education and experience. A graduate degree is preferred. Some
working knowledge of basic computer skills, including word processing,
spreadsheet, database, and on-line telecommunications. Knowledge of good
business practices, experience with not-for-profit or other agencies engaged in
business assistance, and prior experience in business analysis or
self-employment.

POSITION: PROGRAM
MANAGER
The Program Manager is primarily responsible for
the management of members services, programming, and membership recruitment,
under the direction of the Executive Director. The individual is also assigned
basic secretarial and clerical duties to assist the Executive Director in the
management of the Chamber.
Position
Description:
- Maintains membership records, dues records, and data
bases
- Manages dues collection process, from initial to
follow-up calls/mailings
- Contacts/visits all members at least once a year
- Provides/refers technical assistance requests from
members regarding loan options, city, state, federal programs, city services,
and businesses and social services in the community
- Produces a members' and businesses directory and a
Chamber s brochure
- Maintains an updated business census and vacancies
- Recruits new members through visits and other contacts
- Answers the telephone and basic inquiries regarding
Chamber services
- Serves as receptionist to Chamber visitors and at Chamber
functions
- Types/word processes letters, memos, notices, minutes,
agendas , reports, newsletters , and other documents
- Maintains all Chamber files, correspondences, and
records
- Operates and maintains office equipment- personal
computer, fax/printer, copier, and electronic typewriter
- Assists in the production of the Chambergram as
needed
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or
related field
- Good communication and people skills
- Computer literate at least in word processing; other
application knowledge helpful
- Prior sales/administrative experience and knowledge of
Uptown desirable
