The objective of CANDO's Brownfield work is to
improve the economic conditions of Chicago
residents by building the organizational
capacity of community development groups and
individuals to overcome brownfield issues and
play a key role in the redevelopment of their
neighborhoods.
CANDO's goal is to alleviate poverty by enabling
low-income communities to achieve
self-sufficiency and build sustainable
neighborhoods by redeveloping vacant land and
abandoned properties and turning community
liabilities into new community assets with
productive community uses for current residents
and future generations.
The Brownfield Predevelopment Initiative works
community groups in Chicago to identify
redevelopment sites in their communities, assess
market viability, and conduct Phase I and Phase
II environmental audits.
